You need to spend more money on a dog than a bird if you do that. Dogs also chew on things and drool too much.

Money is realative, as is drooling too much. And chewing can be solved by not leaving shoes out and giving them a rawhide bone.

He is thinking about buying her a dog just to prove her wrong XD

Not so relative and not so easy, they chew on everything, not just shoes. Dogs are still more difficult to deal with than some birds.

I'm not sure if she would complain about him doing that or not.

That's what the rawhide bone is for. To give them something they're allowed to chew on. I would still rather have a dog than a bird any day.
